GMS Students,

We have overcome some unimaginable challenges over the past two years. Remote/Virtual Learning was something we all were new to not that long ago. This year we were finally back to the building full time and it was great! Sadly, our Middle School has had some issues with a pipe breaking and flooding parts of our school. This challenge has brought us back to Virtual/Remote Learning. At least this time we can say it is not going to be for too long. We know many of you do not like this type of learning and we completely understand. However, each and every one of you are capable of being successful. You have teachers, counselors and administrators ready to help you out. We overcame this challenge in the past and we can do it again.

In life and especially in our Middle/High School years we will come across many obstacles and it is all about our outlook and taking on the challenge with a positive attitude. You are met with the daily challenges of friend relationships, schoolwork, sports, social media, family and so much more. The obstacles we have in our life do not have to be negative, many times we look at them as being negative. Many times our challenges/obstacles help make us stronger so we should look at them in a more positive light. How can we learn from this experience? An example is sometimes we get into a fight with a friend, eventually maybe we decide to talk it out. Does it mean the friendship is going to be over because you were honest on how you felt about something, no. Many times the friendship becomes stronger. You now have a better understanding of each other, which is important in any relationship. You would become more accepting of each other's differences. That would be a positive outcome of overcoming a friendship challenge.

Even though we are all facing the same challenge of being remote again, we do not have to look at it as a negative obstacle. We can take the positive out of this. Do not forget, teachers, counselors and Administration are all dealing with the same exact challenge as you are maybe not as a student but it is still a challenge for many. Next week, you have one session days. That means you have time from 1-3pm to reach out to your teacher for extra help and get more help than you would if you were in the building for a full day because teachers are only available after school from 2:40-3:05pm. This way you gain more time. You also have extra time to work on make up work and while doing that between 1-3pm you can reach out to the teacher for help if you come across something that you need help with. The positive in this obstacle we are facing is those who need to make up work for Marking Period 3 can do that with plenty of time and the teacher has more availability to assist you longer. We can be sad that we are not in school and that is okay, but we should look at the positives and know this situation we are in is not permanent. We should never take for granted what we have. The fact that we had a nice building to go to school everyday is wonderful and we will have that again. Once we return, don't take being in the building for granted.

If anyone needs anything please reach out to our School Counselors. We are here for you.

WE MISS EVERYONE! We are excited that we will start being able to see some students in school. Things at GMS are going to be different than when we left back in March last year. We need to be flexible and aware of what is going on whether you are remaining remote or coming into the building for learning.

As of March 8, 2021, we will be following a Hybrid/Remote schedule. Students who are hybrid will be attending school in person on their designated cohort schedule. Please remember to wear your uniforms. The days you are not assigned to come into school you will continue to attend classes virtually. There will be a new Hybrid Schedule that will be shared in your School Counselor Teams.

Uniform Colors

6th grade – Hunter green polo

7th grade- Gray polo

8th grade- Navy polo

Please have parents look in Parent Portal to know what cohort you are you.

Purple Cohort First day March 8th (attending school on Mondays and Tuesdays)

Gold Cohort First day March 11th (attending school on Thursdays and Fridays)

ALL STUDENTS will be remote on Wednesdays.

Students who are on a Remote schedule. Please remember to follow your class schedule. It is important to continue to attend your classes daily and log in on time.

Students who are on a Hybrid schedule. Please come to school on time. While we are so happy to see you back, we have to remember to stay safe while we are in the building.

·         Temperature checks will be done before entering the building.

GMS Students, we have recently learned that we will be staying fully remote until March 8th. We know that many of you just want to come back to school, as we know that is not an option for us right now. There are ways to help make things easier for you as we continue to be in remote learning. Please read them below. We know that these times are not easy for anyone and your counseling team is here to help you anyway we can. We do need all of you to take responsibility and do your part so we can help you be successful. We miss all of you and we look forward to seeing everyone when it is safe for us to return.

  • Plan your routine. If a schedule hasn’t been set for you, create one and then stick to it.
  • Cultivate self-discipline. Learn to tackle the work at hand—even when you don’t feel motivated.
  • Create a study space. Make your learning environment comfortable, but not cozy. Remove anything that will disrupt your concentration.
  • Learn to focus. Concentrate on the subject at hand, and don’t try to multitask.
  • Take breaks. Physical activity or a hobby can refresh you.
