Garfield Public SchoolsART-Grade 3DAY #3 (Week of 3/30/20)OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to create a “henna hand” design using outlines of their own hands drawn/traced on a piece of paper. They should read the article on the history of henna and why certain religions/nationalities use henna. https://kids.kiddle.co/HennaStudents will trace their hands using a pencil and then outlining in marker. They will add “organic” and zentangle shapes (Zentangleis a form of meditative doodling that has patterns, or tangles, put together to form a Zen-tangle.) on the hand using a black or brown marker. This signifies the Indian culture and how they use these temporary tattoos to mimic the realistic ink that is designed on Indian cultures for special occasions. Students may also look at Google images of Zentangle Designs to get ideas for their own creation. Materials: paper, pencil, black or brown thin marker, scissors, glue, background paper ACTIVITY: Draw an outline of the opposite hand that you use for drawing in pencil, Outline in brown or black marker. Please be neat when outlining, and do not color the hand solid, you may color certain shapes solid but see the examples for how they are outlined and colored in. When finished with two hands, (you may trace the same hand if you are lefty trace right hand twice, etc) You must cut out the hands and mount them on to any kind of paper. Construction paper, patterned paper, etc. Newspaper, etc. Use your imagination. You will be graded on your neatness, creativity, and following instructions. If you have extra time you may google all different kinds of henna and what they are put on the hands and foot for....
